Great-billed Heron &
Hooded Parrot Tour

This requested tour deals with a couple of birds that have been elusive to some of us, particularly since we avoid going to the Northern Territory when it starts to warm up. So yes it will be warm but this is when the Great-billed Heron first arrives and it is much better than braving cyclones later on.

Northern Territory really is the last frontier with Darwin city the fastest changing in Australia at present. But as soon as you step out of of the "progress" the harsh climate engulfs you and the unique habitat and extraordinary wildlife floods in. The birdlife is prolific and this is the perfect time of year to see it at it's optimum. We will be stalking the Great-billed Heron recently arrived to the mouth of the rivers and estuaries ideally. And the Hooded Parrot has been allocated enough time to search for this fast moving elusive bird, glorious parrot that it is.

Our route is Darwin down to Katherine return and when the tide is not ideal or the midday heat forcing us to retire to the comfort of our hotel, then we will bird the other 200 plus birds together with the migrants that will be fast arriving in September. A blow-in could be on the cards. Gouldian Finches and Red Goshawk will also be targeted.
