Forest of Tranquillity

Saturday 17 April 2010
Ornithologist: Alan Morris

Gallery rainforest with regenerated rainforest hide the dazzling gold of the Regent Bowerbirds our target at Ourimbah. And don't forget to look up for Pacific Bazas and Grey Goshawks, as we are always needing as much practice as possible with those raptors. Hidden Valley has more gorgeous rainforest with Figbirds, Lyrebirds, those crazy Catbirds and the little Yellow-throated Scrub-wrens. White-breasted Woodswallows, Striated Herons, Striped Honeyeaters and migratory waders finish a peaceful day in birding heaven.

By the day's end you will be familiar with rainforest, woodland and heath habitat and the birds that are associated such as Satin Bowerbirds, Eastern Spinebills and even a Diamond Firetail with luck.

Hawkesbury River

Saturday 25 September 2010
Ornithologist: Edwin Vella

Last year we visited a wonderful private property in Pittown looking for crakes and although only Keith Brandwood saw the shy creature, the other birds, the lagoon and the surrounding hills were magnificent so again we go to have a better look. And depending on where the water is we will visit the waders that have appeared after a season away with ducks making a good show we hope this year. You'll just never know unless you go...

Pioneer Dairy &
The Pelican Creche

Saturday 13 November 2010
Ornithologist: Alan Morris

Expect a Swamp Harrier at Pioneer Dairy, with their leisurely gliding flight over this now well established reserve. The planted trees from a few years ago are well and truly up and flowering so the honeyeaters should be thick in the air. A treat to dscover the finches and fairy-wrens, raptors and crakes; this one site has it all. Except for a Pelican creche but we will visit this remarkable colony (only a few along NSW coast) viewing the pandemonium from a comfortable distance.
