Dorrigo Rainforest & the Coast
Pale-yellow Robin by Chris Charles |
Quinessentail raiforest has had a good year, plenty of rain along the coast culminating at the volcanic Dorrigo plateau. Birds like Barred Cuckoo-shike, Wompoo Pigeon, Emerald Dove, Little Shike-thrush, Brolga, Black-necked Stork, Beach-stone Curlew, Brahminy Kite, Regent Bowerbird, Spectacled Monarch, Little Terns, Jancana and Topknot Pigeon are just some of the birds on display in this maganificent region.
The lovely coast takes you away to warm spring days, leaving you beside the beautiful blue of the ocean to witness wading birds returning in the golden sunshine and the deep dense green of subtropical rainforests. A treat for your eyes, ears and heart.
Little Tern by Neil Fifer |
At Urunga on the coast we will be walking over the tidal waters full of Soldier Crabs, waders of all descriptions to surprise, perhaps even a Red-backed Fairy-wren in the dunes behind the beach.
Brush-turkey, Noisy Pitta, Pale-yellow Robin, Logrunner, Large-billed Scrubwren, Little Shrike-thrush and Catbirds are all possible down in the littoral rainforest of the Bruxner Park State Forest. And a Braminy Kite soaring over Bongil-Bongil Creek will stretch your heart with its vivid colour. Even the bright and busy heart of Coffs Harbour has a bird safe-haven at the Botanic Gardens with 100 species within their beautiful subtropical gardens.
